Never Summer Lady West Board Review

The Never Summer Lady West Board Review- For Aggressive Female Riders

The Never Summer Raven Redesign? Or A New Board All Together?

Never Summer Lady West

A few years ago Never Summer retired the Women’s Raven board line and released two new boards as replacements. The Aura and the Infinity. Both had their own characteristics but left many Raven lovers a bit heartbroken because their tried and true Raven was no more. To this day we still get people asking for the Raven. But, there’s a new board in town and it’s the closest replacement to the Raven yet. Introducing the Never Summer Lady West. Taking the characteristics of the Men’s West and the favorite features of the Raven to create one kick ass board.

So how does the raven look next to the lady west spec for spec?

Lady West Raven
Size (cm) 149 149
Effective Edge (mm) 1140 1160
Tip Width (mm) 281 282
Waist Width (mm) 236 237
Tail Width (mm) 276 282
Sidecut Radius (m) Vario 723* Vario 697˚

Most notably looking at specs is the tail width. This is due to the more directional twin shape and a blend of Fusion Rocker Camber. The Raven had Original Rocker camber which made the rider be more center over the board. With the Fusion Rocker Camber you have a similar rocker camber shape but the transition area will only be found in the tip and not the tail on the Never Summer Lady West. This is the biggest notable difference. Stance is setback a bit more and not as center. Otherwise things like Stiffness, and wrap are the same. The elastomers used in the Lady West is the RDS2 not the RDS1. And as previously mentioned many characteristics of the Lady West will remind you of the Raven.

So how does this board feel on snow? Since it’s not a true asymmetrical twin, it’s going to enjoy a more all-mountain shredder than anything else. It’s designed to carve across the whole mountain efficiently and effectively. If you’re a jibber we’re going to push you towards the proto type two. On snow the Never Summer Lady West is really fun. So fun in fact that I’m pretty sure all our female snowboarders on staff will be buying one. This is a fun but aggressive board. It’s designed for aggressive female riders who want to be able to go all over the mountain and go fast. Granted with the setback stance you don’t want to go to fast. But edge to edge the Lady West carves easily. It’s fast and fluid and easy to turn. When you’re in a predicament or unfavorable conditions the Lady West is a confidence builder. It’s got great edge hold and with its Fusion Rocker will really plow through choppy snow. But again this is an all-mountain board. If you’re a jibber, or like softer boards Consider the Shade or the Proto. We’re all really digging this board and are excited to offer a better replacement to the Never Summer Raven.

These boards are available for Purchase at Basin Sports and we’ll have a full demo collection available for the 19/20 season.

Adieu To The Never Summer Raven

Hello To The Never Summer Aura

A Look At The Never Summer Aura and Never Summer Infinity

We know, it was a big shock to us too. But unfortunately good things must come to an end eventually and well, there was too much overlap in snowboard designs that Never Summer has decided to retire the Raven in their women’s snowboard collection.  But fear not, there are a couple options diehard Raven lovers can take to stay with the Never Summer Brand.  They’re called the Aura and Infinity.

Let’s Start With The Infinity

The Never Summer Infinity is not new to the Never Summer Collection, in fact it’s been around for a while at this point. Now the Infinity, though not the same as the Raven does share the same camber style as the Raven. This profile is considered the Original Rocker Camber Profile by Never Summer but also incorporated the Vario Power Grip Sidecut so you have stabile edge control.  These features are the same as what’s in the Raven now.

Major differences between the two would the RDS dampening system and the core type.  In the Raven you get the RDS 1 Dampening system and the Never Summer Superlight core while the Infinity has the Never Summer Custom Flight Core and the RDS 2 dampening system.  The RDS 1 system is more extensive and runs the full length of the effective edge with less extensive construction in the tip and tail.  It’s supposed to help with high speed stability and control.  The RDS 2 is a lightweight system that uses three narrower layers along the effective edge to help with vibration absorption and gives the board a more freeride feel. Both the Infinity and Aura rock the RDS 2 which is what we should see most decks moving towards. Corewise the Infinity has the Custom Flight Core which is light yet stiff under foot.  It’s more freestyle oriented with key areas being supple for nose presses and whatnot. The Never Summer Superlight Woodcore, found in the Never Summer Raven is basically a revamped Flight core. The Strength to Weight Ratio is supposed to be unmatched.

Is the Infinity for you? If freestyle is more your thing and you’d rather be jibbing than adventuring then yes, the Infinity is your option. If you enjoy more all-mountain shredding and see yourself as a more aggressive rider keep reading and find out why the new (this year) Never Summer Aura is your next option moving forward off the Raven.

Let’s Finish With The Aura

Never Summer introduced the Aura this year and it’s been taking the slopes by storm.  It’s enhanced with the Ripsaw camber profile and packs some serious power. Targeted at the aggressive female shredder it’s being raved about and is gaining popularity. Available in 146, 148, 150, 152, and 155 the Aura caters to all lady rippers. The Never Summer Aura shares the same core as the Raven but with the Ripsaw Camber Profile so you get a more aggressive edge.  The dampening system is the RDS 2 style and to find a deck with the RDS 1 you’d have to get on the Never Summer Swift since none of the female decks will have it going into next year.

So now you have a decision to make, freestyle or freeride. It all comes down to what you want.  For the die-hard Raven fans we recommend buying one from this year to ride the next few seasons or; try and demo both to really get a feel for what you want.

2015 Marhar Bloom Snowboard Review

Marhar Bloom Snowboard ReviewMarhar Bloom Snowboard Review is about A small company based out of Michigan, you probably wouldn’t look twice at Marhar Snowboards- think again.  Handmade quality craftsmanship, and a crew that loves what they do means you’re getting a solid deck that’s going to last.  The Bloom is Marhar’s women specific do all snowboard.  This board is very playful, in the park and out, you are definitely going to have fun on this board.

The Bloom rocks a true twin hybrid rocker/ camber shape with a centered stance.  This makes the board almost spring-loaded and powerful in and out of nose and tail press zones. A great jibbing board that’s for sure, this board would dominate in Killington Resort’s Stash. And with the subtle camber underfoot and incorporation of Marhar’s attack arc sidewall you can be confident in knowing your board is going to hold that edge at high and low speeds.

This board is more of a jib/ all- mountain snowboard but can handle those east coast powder days.  For a woman looking to get on a deck that will let her keep that playful style but remain aggressive on those hard pack fast groomers, should check out the Bloom.  You’re getting a flexible yet stable deck, that’s playful and forgiving.

Available in 144, 148, and 151 feel free to call us at 802-422-3234 or check us out online at basinski.com

2015 NOW IPO Women’s Binding Review

NOW_IPO_BLK_TURQNOW_15_IPO_BLK_GREEN  It’s back, redesigned and better than ever.  Behold the 2015 NOW IPO Snowboard Binding for Women.  This very techy binding was listed in Transworld Snowboarding Magazines gear guide as one of the top responsive bindings for women.  The IPO has integrated a flex hinged highback as well as, a flushcup heel to help reduce heel lift and keep the boot from moving around in the binding.  Another cool feature integrated into this binding is the kingpin/ bushing combination.  This allows the base- plate to pivot for edge to edge energy transfer called Skate Tech.  Enabling the binding to work much like a skateboard binding Skate Tech allows the rider to have better contact with the board, allowing for a better day on the mountain.

Besides new technology, NOW has replaces the alumiring and forge disc compounds with a nylon post and disc that are reinforced with 50% fiberglass. With EST channels and 4- hole disc patterns the new and improved IPO offers softer lateral flex feel without compromising the ride and response of the binding.  The change from Aluminum to a 50% fiberglass binding has created a lighter more responsive binding that is definitely a great choice for a woman who likes to ride the entire mountain.  Available in multiple colors and now in Small, Medium, and Large sizes the NOW IPO should be your go to Snowboard binding for the upcoming season.  If you have any more questions or want to purchase this item follow the link below or, call us at Out of Bounds Snowboard Shop at 802- 422-8778.
